All students should wear the correct school uniform and should be neatly and tidily dressed at all times. They are expected to wear regulation school uniform travelling to and from school as well as in school. Students should be proud of their uniform and aware that they are representing their school when they are wearing it. Items of non-school uniform worn by students will be confiscated. Dependent on circumstances, these items may be disposed of or students may collect them from the School Office at 3.10pm. If clothing or jewellery is not collected by the end of term it will be recycled. The school will not accept responsibility for loss or damage to property that should not have been brought into school/used in school.
Topcoat or Anorak:
Plain black / Navy Blue / Grey only. No sports jackets or jackets with logos. Reflectors may be worn for health and safety purposes
No outer garments should be worn during lesson time
Blazer:
Regulation blazer, with appropriate House badge, should be worn at all times
Shoes:
Plain black smart leather footwear that conforms to traditional “school shoes” only; no logos. Shoes should be an appropriate height with a heel no higher than 5cm. Gym shoes or trainers, should only be worn for PE
Boots or canvas shoes should not be worn
Socks / Tights:
Plain black socks or black opaque tights for junior girls. Black opaque tights for senior girls. Summer, 15 denier black tights may be worn. Plain black socks for boys.
Shirt:
Girls: plain white flat-collared short sleeved
Boys: plain white of a tailored style, suitable for wearing with a tie
Tie:
Regulation pattern, compulsory for boys
Skirt:
Years 7 to 11 – regulation skirt with green insert
Trousers:
Plain black. For female students ‘Bootleg’ style and tight fitting trousers are not acceptable. There are two acceptable styles Banner Code 3832 and 3627
Jumper:
If a jumper is wanted to be worn, it has to be the regulation black Altwood jumper with the Altwood logo.
No cardigans, sweatshirts or hoodies to be worn
Physical Education Kit:
Girls: Regulation black top, badged ‘Altwood’, black badged games skort and/or black athletic shorts, black and green Altwood socks and/or white socks
Boys: Green & black badged ‘Altwood’ rugby shirt and black shorts, black and green Altwood socks and/or white socks. Regulation black top badged ‘Altwood’
All: Training shoes and football boots. Gum shields and shin pads will need to be worn for contact sports.
Optional: Regulation black badged ‘Altwood’ hoodie and plain black track suit bottoms.
Track Suit:
Plain black unbranded tracksuit suitable to the activity, approved by the PE department
Jewellery and Make up
Students may wear no more than one small plain and regular ear stud in the ear lobe of each ear, one plain finger ring and a small religious necklace. No other jewellery is allowed. Students wearing any other jewellery will be instructed to remove it, and may have items confiscated, to be collected by parents. Make up is not allowed
Hair
Hair should be clean, tidy, naturally coloured and of reasonable length. Long hair should be tied back for safety reasons. No extreme hairstyles are permitted – this includes shaved, in logos
MOBILE PHONES ARE ONLY ALLOWED IN SCHOOL IF THEY ARE SWITCHED OFF DURING AND BETWEEN LESSONS. IPODS AND OTHER SUCH EQUIPMENT SIMILARLY MAY NOT BE USED DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. Students have access to a telephone in the case of an emergency at the General Office and must take responsibility for the safekeeping of their own phones and possessions. It is important that students understand that if inappropriate use of phones/electronic equipment takes place, the item will be confiscated for two school nights.
N.B.
All clothes and equipment should be clearly marked with the owner’s name. Whilst the School takes reasonable care to protect property, it cannot be held responsible for loss or damage. This is particularly relevant to any items of non-school uniform that may be worn. Parents are advised to make their own insurance arrangements for property and for accidental injury.
Sixth Form Dress Code
Shoes Appropriate shoes for all (not trainers or related footwear). Sensible and safe heel
height required
Trousers Formal trousers. (denim jeans, tracksuit bottoms and combat trousers are not
acceptable)
Tops for boys Formal shirts, with a tie
Tops for girls Should be smart and of an appropriate length
All students should be smart and presentable at all times. Jewellery should not exceed that which is stated in school policy. You are representatives of the school and should be aware that this is a place of work and study.
