Key Stage 3 – Years 7, 8 & 9
What will a young person study?
All students will have lessons in:
- English
- Maths
- Science
- Religious Education
- Geography
- History
- Art
- Music
- Drama
- Technology
- Information and Communication Technology
- A Modern Foreign Language – French or Spanish
- Physical Education
- Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship
Some students will have:
- a programme of study in skills development focusing on literacy, enterprise, transition to secondary school, developing their intelligences and study skills;
others will have:
- opportunity to study a second Modern Foreign Language
The opportunity to follow a slightly different pathway is dependent upon a young person’s academic strengths and what their key target areas are to secure further progress.
Students will be placed in ‘sets’ for their lessons and their progress will be very regularly reviewed. In addition, we hold ‘Progress Review Weeks’ and at these times we send reports home to parents and will hold some parental consultations. At other times of the year ‘Reporting Evenings’ will be held.
In English, Maths and Science, students start their GCSE programmes of study in Year 9. In all other subject areas, students spend three years on their foundation/Key Stage 3 programme of study so they are well positioned to make the best choices when it comes to taking their GCSE ‘options’.
